Nile Rodgers & CHIC

Nile Rodgers and CHIC came together to perform at Haydock Racecourse this past Saturday night with a performance that left smiles on the faces of all on hand.

It always helps with these race evenings that the crowd have already enjoyed a fun evening in front of the track, but there is always a feeling that the racing is a mere prelude to what many attendees have really come to see. On this night, that would be Nile Rodgers and CHIC, and they didn’t disappoint.

Both have been around for a long time, so they have forgotten more than many in the industry will ever know about music. This ensures an extensive back catalogue of hits to perform at shows such as this, as well as them knowing exactly how to keep their audience fully invested with a performance that never dips, remaining full of vibrancy and energy from beginning to end.

There were numerous highlights to the evening, but it was unsurprisingly the truly memorable hits that stood out the most. Le Freak went down particularly well, with an extended guitar rendition making this even more impactful and funky from a live perspective. Good Times had everybody singing along towards the end of the night, and though some additional lyrics may have been ad-libbed on the evening itself, it didn’t stop the beat becoming addictive enough to have all in attendance dancing along. Other songs performed included Get Lucky, which again had everybody singing and dancing to the tune, as well as a tribute to Diana Ross, with I’m Coming Out proving particularly popular.

Given the wide-open nature of the Haydock location which can occasionally make for some difficult sightlines, it is imperative for the artists to put on a show that keeps all eyes on the stage and side screens at all times. Nile Rodgers and CHIC definitely succeeded at this, as they proved that not only do they still “have it”, so to speak, but that they are masters of owning the stage and putting on a feel-good show that is impossible not to become engaged into.

Nile Rodgers and CHIC will be performing again around the country for several dates, and I would urge you to check them out. As the song goes, you will definitely enjoy some Good Times by heading along to watch Nile Rodgers and CHIC live.
