WWE Raw Review, July 8 2019 feat. Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch vs. Andrade & Zelina Vega

Oliver! was a triumph for LHK Youth Theatre.

RAW Flashbacks

Last week’s RAW in a word was eventful. The show started with Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley going through the stage and finished with the reformation of the Club after AJ decided to bring the ‘AJ Styles’ back following a loss to Ricochet. Also throughout the show Drake Maverick won the 24/7 Championship, The Undertaker promised to take Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre’s souls and Kofi Kingston suffered his first loss as WWE Champion.

Announced for RAW tonight is a mixed tag between Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch vs Smackdown’s Andrade and Zelina Vega, the return of the ‘Master of the 619’ Rey Mysterio as well as Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre vs Roman Reigns and a partner of Shane’s choosing which if The Undertaker gets involved he is removed from Extreme Rules. RAW takes place from the Prudential Centre in Newark, NJ.

Elimination Mixed Tag Team Match
Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch vs. Andrade & Zelina Vega

This match was setup on Twitter in the last week with Vega making the comment that Seth and Becky have ‘No chemistry’. The match would start with ‘The Man’ and ‘La Muénca’ with Becky in control for the majority of the match eliminating Zelina with the disarmher. Seth Rollins and Andrade was a lot more closer with Andrade hitting a double foot stomp and clashing into Becky before Rollins would hit a falcon arrow counter to the ‘Three Amigos’. After a countered suicide dive Rollins would hit the Stomp on Andrade for a 2-0 elimination win.

Post-match Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans would lay out Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins blindsiding the two Champions before this Sunday’s match. This would be followed by a backstage segment between Lacey and Baron who claim “Love has made them blind” and that they are the “New Power couple” in WWE.

Paul Heyman Promo

Heyman would quickly get to the chase talking about the word ‘Extreme’ and its ties to Philadelphia. Heyman would claim that Lesnar will be cashing in on Sunday either against Kofi or Seth and that this is a “Prediction not a spoiler”. The Beast’s Advocate does however tease the Newark crowd into that he could be lying as he has built so much credibility since Wrestlemania XXX in ending The Undertaker’s streak.

Bobby Lashley vs. Braun Strowman is announced for Extreme Rules in a Last Man Standing match. Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre go looking for Roman Reigns partner and find Tony the Garbage Man who is asked if he wants to team with Reigns. Shane says “He will get back to him”.

Six Man Tag Team Two Out Of Three Falls Match
Elias & The Revival vs. The Miz & The Usos

For the third week in a row there is a two out of three falls match on the show involving the Miz and Elias. During the entrance of the match it is also announced that The Uso’s will be challenging for the RAW Tag Titles at Extreme Rules. The match starts with the Revival controlling Jimmy Uso before garnering the first fall hitting a Shatter Machine whilst Jey Uso and the Miz were distracted. This distraction would come from Elias walking out on his partners after being chased by The Miz making thus match a handicap match. The match would swing with Jey Uso being tagged in nearly pinning Dash with a roll-up before a brainbuster by Dawson gets a close 2. The second fall would see the Miz being tagged in and immediately hitting a Skull Crushing Finale for the pin. This would be immediately followed by Jey Uso hitting a Uso splash on Dawson to win the third fall and the match.

Drake Maverick and his wife Renee Michelle are backstage with talks of consummating the marriage leading to a loud scream by Maverick and a crowd of Superstars chasing the 24/7 Champion.

Beer man Louis is asked by Shane if he wants to be Reigns partner tonight in another backstage segment.

After 6 weeks out Rey Mysterio was back! The Master of the 619 makes his return focused on that six weeks ago he made the toughest decision of his life vacating the US Championship and that he is making an open challenge.

Rey Mysterio vs. Bobby Lashley

We now travel back to 2005 SmackDown with this match. This would be a David vs. Goliath matchup with the quickness of Mysterio vs the power of Lashley who is seemingly back after last week making him “Super human” according to commentary. Mysterio would hit a satellite DDT and 619 but a headscissors pin would lead to a elevated flatliner counter and a charged Spear for a dominant win for Lashley before his Last Man Standing match with Braun Strowman. Post-match Bobby Lashley would attack Rey gorilla pressing him to the outside before claiming to Braun Strowman that he “Will be the last man standing”.

Charly Caruso interviews AJ Styles who when asked why he attacked Ricochet last week claims “He has nothing to explain to anyone”.

No Way Jose vs. Cesaro

This is revenge from last week for Jose who was meant to face Cesaro before the 24/7 rule interrupted the show and Cesaro blindsided the former NXT star. Jose would attack Cesaro pre match using the steel steps but it would not be enough with Cesaro winning with a Sharpshooter in two minutes.

NXT Tag Team Champions The Street Profits plug an advertisement for Extreme Rules making predictions for matches on the show.

Mike and Maria Kanellis continued their quarrels backstage; well, Maria quarrelled, while Mike claiming the news caught him off guard. Later, Maria told Mike that “He’ll never impregnate her again” and wasn’t even sure if this baby was his.

Nikki Cross/Bayley Segment

This was a split screen interview where the focus was on the beat the clock match later tonight with the winner of the challenge getting to pick the stipulation for Extreme Rules. Nikki claimed she had to win for Alexa and that she is tired of Bayley running her mouth off. Bayley would be taking on Sarah Logan and Cross would be taking on Dana Brooke.

R-Truth and Carmella go looking for Drake Maverick and Truth’s ‘Baby’, they end up running the opposite direction. Truth starts singing Jeff Jarrett theme about his ‘Baby’ to express his feelings.

The Viking Raiders vs. Colin Justin & Devin Justin

This was a standard TV squash match with the Viking Raiders in complete control winning with the catching powerslam (‘The Viking Experience’) by Ibar. The 24/7 antics would run out with The Raiders taking out Hawkins and staring down R-Truth.

Roman Reigns is interviewed by Charly Caruso who claims him and The Undertaker are the only ones playing mind games.

Ricochet vs. Luke Gallows

Pre-match Ricochet would take to the mic to claim that after last week he needs to beat all three members of the Club, AJ would tell Ricochet he needs to slow down and appreciate the greatness of what occurred last week. Gallows would hit a very high chokeslam on the US Champion early on but the pace would be too much for the former RAW Tag Team Champion falling to a surprise jackknife pin cover. AJ would take Ricochet to his word of beating all three Club members which would lead to …

Ricochet vs. Karl Anderson

This match was a lot more even with Ricochet able to hit a running headscissors whilst Anderson caught an off guard Ricochet with a spinebuster for a two count. Ricochet would take out Gallows and AJ on the outside with a tope and a moonsault before dispatching Ricochet with the 630. Post-match, The Club would attack Ricochet laying him out with a Magic Killer followed by a Phenomenal forearm.

More 24/7 antics as Maverick after believing he survived the night is confronted by R-Truth leading the 205 Live General Manager to run off.

Shane and Drew McIntyre believe that they found their guy in Gary the Janitor who will do anything for $5000.

Beat The Clock Challenge Match
Bayley vs. Sarah Logan

This was a pretty good match with the time they got with Logan getting some nice moves on the Smackdown Women’s Champion hitting a huge headbutt and elevated corner dropkick. Bayley would regain some control with a Lou Thesz press but the reverse Texas deathlock would give the former Riott Squad member the advantage. The finish would see Bayley win with a sunset flip powerbomb into the corner in 4:31, the fans chant CM Punk like it makes a point taking us back to 2014.

Beat The Clock Challenge Match
Nikki Cross vs. Dana Brooke

Dana starts the match outside the ring wasting time with Bayley before Cross takes control with punches in the corner. Dana would attempt a Swanton bomb and rollup with both being unsuccessful before a swinging neckbreaker by Cross would win the match with 2:00 left. Nikki Cross would make the announcement for Extreme Rules making the title match a 2 on 1 handicap with Cross teaming with Alexa. Cross would claim that this Sunday Bayley would find what friendship is and that she needs someone to slap some sense into her. Bayley would lay out Cross with a Bayley to Belly and Elbow drop.

Corey Graves interviews Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, Graves would ask if their personal relationship has any effect on the match this Sunday. Becky would claim that Lacey and Baron have no more chances after Sunday before calling Graves “Mr Emo head”. Street Profits do another prediction for Extreme Rules on the WWE Title match and the Winner takes all match.

Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre vs. Roman Reigns & Gary ‘The GOAT’ Harbutt

Shane and Drew would promise to beat the respect into Roman before announcing ‘The GOAT’ as Reigns partner. This match would be extremely quick with Reigns being took out quickly after a Superman punch would be countered into a Glasgow kiss and a accidental tag to Gary. McIntyre would throw Gary in before tagging Shane leading to a huge surprise, Gary can go. Gary would hit a springboard clothesline on Shane and a tope on Drew before succumbing to a Claymore kick and being pinned by Shane McMahon. Post-match, Cedric Alexander was revealed to be hiding behind the mask which is nice to see Cedric get the spotlight but because he lost the crowd had little to care.

Overall, this felt like a downgrade compared to last week’s episode of Raw. The opening mixed tag and Lashley’s domination of Mysterio were good as was the beat the clock challenge but there was nothing really eye catching on the go home episode before Extreme Rules.
