Swan Song

The setting is Liverpool in 1997 amidst an ever-changing world. And we meet English teacher Dave Titswell, a gay man in his forties. But he finds that not all of this change is particularly welcome. Now, he has a crush, but life, love, and even work are not straightforward for him. However, could a school trip to The Lakes change things for the better? Or, conversely, might the excursion make things even worse? This show is both hilarious and emotional, making this quite the experience. After all, everybody knows someone like Dave, or they might even be a Dave themselves. Furthermore, Andrew Lancel is kindly contributing to help the Unity Theatre through the pandemic by virtue of this production.

The award-winning writer Jonathan Harvey has many famous credits to his name. So, just some of them include Gimme Gimme Gimme, Coronation Street, Call The Midwife and Murder Most Horrid. Not to mention the plethora of plays to his name, such as Beautiful Thing, Hushabye Mountain and Rupert Street Lonely Hearts Club. Meanwhile, Noreen Kershaw brings a wealth of accomplishments as director. Such credits include Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Shameless, Our Girl, Moving On, Scott & Bailey and Heartbeat. And her acting roles include the likes of Brookside, Life On Mars and Watching.

Andrew Lancel is a patron of Unity Theatre, as well as a major star on the stage and on the small screen. So, his most famous roles are as par tof The Bill and Coronation Street. Not to mention his two times playing Brian Epstein, manager of The Beatles, on stage. Additionally, he would appear in the UK-wide tour of Cilla The Musical.

The Unity Theatre is an intimate and quirky venue. Indeed, it has a special place on Liverpool’s theatre scene. And this reflects in its offering of exciting, thought-provoking and unorthodox shows. Furthermore, the stage is extremely close to the audience, meaning that attendees often have close eye contact with the stars. And that can make for some interesting experiences, as well as allowing crowds to immerse themselves fully into the experience. So, if you’re looking for something fresh and different, we recommend that you stop by at Unity Theatre.
