This is our DVD review for WWE Clash Of Champions 2019, the latest PPV event to hit DVD. It had the hallmarks of being a totally missable show beforehand, but as is often the case, the wrestling itself helped to make it a worthwhile viewing experience. This is the latest DVD review for our site. So, let’s see what we think of Clash Of Champions 2019!
Clash Of Champions 2019 Under Card
This show was unique in that the defending Raw Tag Team Champions were also set to collide against one another in the headline attraction for the Universal Championship. This meant that Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman were pulling double duty, but it also gave them something of an excuse to lose their belts to Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode in a forgettable yet enjoyable opening contest. Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair is surprisingly brief and ultimately a disappointment for that reason.
With the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at stake, The Revival vs. The New Day is a worthy effort, though it feels like a step below what the two combos are capable of. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross vs. Fire & Desire is a TV-level match, but the fans are into it, which is what counts at the end of the day. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. The Miz doesn’t sound like the most appealing match on paper, but their bout was fun to see, even if it confirms that Miz’s babyface turn earlier this year has proven to be detrimental to his fortunes.
Clash Of Champions 2019 Main Events
Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks was arguably the most anticipated bout of the night, and though it has a confusing finish and while this doesn’t represent their best work against one another, it is still a thrilling encounter that the fans were well into. Kofi Kingston (who adorns the cover sleeve) vs. Randy Orton is an improvement on their SummerSlam encounter, partly because the fans actually give them the opportunity to tell their story (whereas the Toronto crowd seemed to be trying to spoil their previous WWE Title bout).
Clash Of Champions 2019 Analysis
Roman Reigns vs. Erick Rowan under No Holds Barred rules is a typical yet exciting weapons-based brawl that has a surprise ending. In some ways, it’s disappointing, though, because it marks the moment of the Reigns mystery attacker storyline fading away. That’s a shame, because that’s a plot device you only use every few years. Sadly, WWE would fail to make the most of it on this occasion.
Perhaps the highlight of the show comes, fittingly, with the main event, as Seth Rollins gives Braun Strowman what may be the best match of his entire career in an unpredictable and thoroughly believable contest. The post-match attack on Seth by The Fiend ends the card with a bang, though the fall-out of that moment has been somewhat controversial, particularly at Hell In A Cell (which we’ll cover in a future DVD review).
Clash Of Champions 2019 Summary
WWE Clash Of Champions 2019 is one of the more consistent PPV events that you will see. There aren’t any genuine classics on the show, but none of the matches are particularly bad, and several of the bouts really shine. I can’t see it winning any Card Of The Year awards; however, it has plenty to offer as an overall presentation, meaning that it is worth a second look on DVD.
Overall Rating: 7/10 – Respectable
