This is our DVD review for WWE Royal Rumble 2020. It’s the first WWE supershow of the year and of the decade. And it proves to be something of a home run. The match quality occasionally dips, but there are enough worthy bouts. And they nicely complement some of the more memorable Royal Rumble contest moments in recent years. This is the latest DVD review for our site. So, let’s see what we think of Royal Rumble 2020!

Royal Rumble 2020 Under Card
The show opens with a chaotic Falls Count Anywhere match pitting Roman Reigns against King Corbin, with The Big Dog claiming the win after a long battle which went all over Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. This definitely has its moments, and from an in-ring standpoint (well, out-ring I guess based on the rules), this is the highlight of their lengthy feud. Next up, we get to the women’s Rumble match, which to me was superior to the all-female Rumble in 2019, though it featured a less exciting finishing sequence (Becky Lynch stormed the ring as an unannounced participant last year) and a less popular outcome, with fans audibly booing Charlotte Flair’s triumph.
The next three matches are of varying standards. Bayley and Lacey Evans graft, but the Houston crowd just aren’t massively interested. Conversely, The Fiend and Daniel Bryan hold the audience’s attention throughout their brutal Strap match, and the welts on Bryan’s back are a gnarly sight to see the very least. Becky Lynch vs. Asuka is a strong bout, though to me, the outcome was inevitable based on the storyline of Becky having never beaten Asuka, especially since The Empress Of Tomorrow had defeated The Man at last year’s Rumble event.
Royal Rumble 2020 Main Events
It’s the men’s Rumble match that is the main reason to watch this show again on DVD, though. Brock Lesnar’s quest to run through the entire field goes very well, until he runs into Drew McIntyre, who Claymore Kicks him to the floor in a moment that had everybody on their feet. The best was yet to come, though, with the return of Edge after nearly 9 years away from the ring in one of the all-time great Royal Rumble occurrences. Add to that some strong action throughout, plus further shocks (MVP coming back was totally unexpected) and the surprise outcome of Drew McIntyre being the last man standing, and the end result is a Rumble match that, if not one of the greatest to date, is definitely on the rung below.
Royal Rumble 2020 Analysis
The DVD includes the two Kick-Off Show matches. One is Sheamus’ own return to the ring after an injury-enforced absence by beating Shorty G. Another is one of the many bouts between Andrade and Humberto Carrillo for the United States Championship. The Blu-ray version features further extras, including the announcement of Brock entering the men’s Rumble, the contract signing for Becky vs. Asuka, and The Fiend having an altercation with both Daniel Bryan and Kane.
Royal Rumble 2020 Summary
With a classic Rumble match in the headline spot and several very entertaining matches elsewhere, plus some generous bonus material, WWE Royal Rumble 2020 is a great show overall, and one of the more appealing WWE supershows to purchase on DVD this year.
