This is our DVD review for WWE Royal Rumble 2021, a show that opens the year for WWE in style. The DVD of this show reminds us how the Road To WrestleMania 37 would begin. And at the time of writing, much of the Mania card still remains up in the air. But the Rumble would certainly play its part in helping to shape the April megashow. This is the latest DVD review for our site. So, let’s see what we think of Royal Rumble 2021!

WWE Royal Rumble 2021

Royal Rumble 2021 Under Card

Arguably the most appealing attraction on the card kicks off the night. Drew McIntyre vs. Goldberg for the WWE Title is short yet physical. And McIntyre helps to give Goldberg his best match since WrestleMania 33. Then, Sasha Banks and Carmella conclude their rivalry with the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line. Carmella almost suffers a horrifying injury, but otherwise, this is a very good bout.

Next up, we have the fourth annual all-women’s Royal Rumble match. This is a blast from start to finish. Amongst the surprise returnees are Victoria, whose comeback was a major shock. There are also fun bits, such as some shenanigans involving R-Truth and the 24/7 Title. Then, you have some noteworthy eliminations amidst some fine action. And of course you have the performance of Bianca Belair, who triumphs from #3 in a career-making moment. Will she capture gold at WrestleMania? We shall soon find out.

Royal Rumble 2021 Main Events

After that, we have a Last Man Standing clash between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens for the Universal Title. This is quite the brawl, with both men taking big chances in their attempts to win. KO, in particular, raises eyebrows with a huge senton backstage. Roman running over Owens with a golf cart is equally as memorable, but far more hilarious. However, the unfortunate standout moment is the botch near the finish. Paul Heyman’s attempts to free Roman from handcuffs take so long that it crushes the quality of the match. And it happens right before the finish. Still, it remains an awesome brawl prior to the climax.

And then we have the traditional 30-man bout to close the show. This isn’t quite as good as the women’s Rumble, but it does have its moments. Namely, the return of Christian, in a comeback which few saw coming beforehand. There are also some cool spots to avert elimination, as well as neat ways to confirm certain competitors falling to the floor. Ultimately, the night would belong to Edge, who became the first #1 winner since 2004. And his elimination of Randy Orton allows him to chase a major title at WrestleMania, having had to relinquish a World Title due to injury and retirement in 2011.

Royal Rumble 2021 Analysis

There’s always fun from watching Royal Rumble. But would the lack of a normal crowd impact the enjoyment of this event? Not at all. The ThunderDome sits in the background, as this feels as much like a regular WWE PPV than any other. And there are plenty of talking points, from the Rumble winners overcoming the odds to Bad Bunny essentially beginning a WWE career. Each match has something to offer, and certain outcomes could mould the forthcoming few months for WWE. In hindsight, though, Christian’s comeback feels surreal, due to him recently signing with AEW.

Royal Rumble 2021 Summary

In terms of consistency, WWE Royal Rumble 2021 is one of the better cards in recent times. The two Rumbles are both entertaining, and in the case of the women’s Rumble, highly entertaining. Meanwhile, the two heavyweight title bouts are memorable. And Sasha vs. Carmella is a strong fight as well. So, I suggest that you take a look at WWE Royal Rumble 2021 on DVD as we prepare for the spectacle that is WrestleMania 37.

Overall Rating: 7.5/10 – Good
