This is our DVD review for WWE Survivor Series 2019. Once again, the annual card would see the main WWE brands battle it out on the night, but with a twist. This time, NXT are now on the same stage as Raw and SmackDown. This would prove to be a great decision, as it led to one of the year’s best events. This is the latest DVD review for our site. So, let’s see what we think of Survivor Series 2019!

WWE Survivor Series 2019

Survivor Series 2019 Under Card

Opening things is the women’s elimination match, which manages to spotlight more than a dozen females, none more so than Rhea Ripley, who takes a major step towards stardom by securing the win for her squad. AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura and Roderick Strong then somehow manage to make an all-heel three-way match work with some great exchanges, leading up to Strong securing the surprise victory. NXT once again takes centre stage for match number three, as Adam Cole defends the NXT Championship against Pete Dunne in a match that takes a little time to capture the crowd’s interest, but has everybody on their feet by the end, and for good reason: it’s a superb battle, and a highlight of 2019 for WWE on Pay-Per-View.

Survivor Series 2019 Main Events

Moving away from NXT for the time being, The Fiend’s Universal Title defence against Daniel Bryan isn’t as good as the Cole-Dunne bout, but it’s still well worth watching, and their feud is continuing as I write this, with an upcoming rematch set for Royal Rumble 2020. Then we get arguably the peak of the event, that being the men’s elimination match between all three brands. With the exception of the previously-unbeaten WALTER being pinned way too easily, this is a tremendous match, with several performers given a big boost, in particular Keith Lee who gets over like crazy, and though he remains on NXT at present, he’s bound to make a massive impact on Raw or SmackDown in either 2020 or 2021.

Survivor Series 2019 Analysis

Brock Lesnar’s WWE Title defence against Rey Mysterio under No Holds Barred rules follows the usual Lesnar formula, until Rey’s son Dominic gets involved which leads to some unthinkable spots and a heart-stopping near-fall, taking a good match into an almost must-see affair. Unfortunately, the three-way between Becky Lynch, Bayley and Shayna Baszler is a bit of a let-down: fought at a slow pace in front of an exhausted crowd, the match doesn’t leave second gear, and Baszler wins out of nowhere. A post-match angle does set the table for a future Becky vs. Shayna contest, but it’s still a flat ending to an otherwise brilliant PPV card. And the result did mean that NXT easily won the night, which was the main purpose of the whole event.

Survivor Series 2019 Summary

With the exception of WrestleMania 35, Survivor Series 2019 is the best PPV event of the year for WWE. And that makes this an easy DVD recommendation. The show features two must-see elimination clashes. Adam Cole vs. Pete Dunne is tremendous. Brock Lesnar vs. Rey Mysterio exceeds expectations. And The Fiend has his best outing yet against Daniel Bryan. Besides the main event, this is a home run of a show, hence this being a DVD worth watching for WWE fans.

Overall Rating: 8/10 – Very Good
