The accolades seem to go on and on for Liverpool Football Club this season. With the EFL cup under our belts, and with Liverpool being only three points behind Man City in the Premier League with a better goal difference than our nearby competitors (not to mention a 2-1 win against Norwich in the FA cup, and a 2-0 away advantage going into our second leg against Inter Milan tomorrow), Jurgen Klopp’s LFC look primed for a season of trophies galore.
Recent Form
Let’s say that Liverpool keep up their recent run of form. Klopp’s Red Men could win, respectively, the Premier League title, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League. They already have the EFL Cup. So this could mean LFC would have won four trophies in the 21/22 season – the quadruple.
With the season in its closing months, let’s look at Liverpool’s recent form and see whether it is possible. According to the official Premier League table, we have not lost a single home game this season domestically. Furthermore, we have only lost two of our thirteen away outings. With our next game being at home, I would predict that we would win, meaning we would be through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. However, the FA Cup and Premier League are (despite the latter’s nearly unparalleled stats) more difficult to predict owing to their domestic and historical links associated with these titles and trophies.
Squad Reserves
In addition to this, key players (especially in the midfield area – I am thinking here of Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita) do not seem to be able to keep their fitness level up to playability towards the end of this season. This could have an unprecedented effect on our hopes of securing the remaining three trophies. Fitness and squad rotatability seems to be a major component of other teams’ success in these tournaments. As such, we tend to rotate our squad frequently for Cup games before Premier League games. For example, look at the amazing abilities and talents of Minamino and Elliott on display in the 2-1 victory against Norwich City.
Conclusion
Nevertheless, I do still feel that this could be another record-breaking season for Klopp. LFC are more than capable of winning, if not all four trophies, at least the Premier League. This is heating up and is catching the interest of other pundits as well. (Click here for the review of the recent West Ham PL fixture.) The media attention and funds from winning the tournament would allow our owners to persuade key players to say. (This includes Salah; click here for my opinion piece regarding his future at the club). Plus, a Premier League title as well? Doesn’t sound bad to me at all …
