Marvel has released various video games over the years, from ones focusing on the web swinger, to the X-Men, to Deadpool and more. But which is best? Before we find out let me explain the one rule for the list, only one entry is permitted per game series. So unfortunately, you have to choose between which Insomniac Spider-Man you want on the list! Here are Marvel games ranked…
Marvel Games Ranked 6- Contest of Champions

I know, I know! Contest of Champions is a mobile game, but a very good one. It takes heavy inspiration from the mobile Mortal Kombat game and regularly pumped out updates making it enticing to return each day to grind for them crystals! The movie and TV show tie-ins always got me excited; I’m still chuffed I got Infinity War Iron Man, he’s boss. The special moves are unique for each character but that’s not all. They all have their own animated move sets and animations, even if you only have two attack inputs, the combo system will help display varying attacks which look beautiful.

Marvel Games Ranked 5 – Marvel vs Capcom 3: Ultimate
The 3rd installment in the Marvel vs Capcom crossover franchise MvsC3 is by far the best of the series. Allowing the full three characters to be selected per fight, instead of Infinite’s two which not only robbed an iconic feature of the series but also limited variety. The roster for both Marvel and Capcom are rammed packed with popular household names, and some lesser known characters. The is also a good amount of variety and range, not pulling too many characters from any one group of heroes or one game/ game series.
I particularly enjoyed grinding the arcade mode, defeating Galactus over and over just to get another juicy ending. My favourite being where the Hulk joins the Resident Evil cast in wiping out the T-Virus.
Marvel Games Ranked 4- Marvel’s Midnight Suns

The brilliant strategic turn-based gameplay of X-Com is paired with friendship dynamics of Persona. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is one of the most in depth Marvel games of all time. Delving into the supernatural area of Marvel lore and characters brings a unique story. Featuring various heroes from Midnight Suns, X-Men, and Avengers. The gameplay is a smartly designed card system that is brilliantly entertaining. It brings a bit more flourish to the usual X-Com gameplay. Finding myself sometimes getting bored of the X-Com missions I loved how this added swiftness to the combat.

Marvel Games Ranked 3 – Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
Ever since my first playthrough, Marvel Ultimate Alliance has probably been my favourite Marvel game series released so far, tasked with building your own team of heroes to take on whichever games opposing forces is one of the greatest experiences I’ve had gaming. In the first one I loved gathering all the different costumes and other various collectables. Some of which even unlocked brand new characters such as Thor. Then playing the sequel, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and finding out it was it’s own take on Civil War excited me beyond belief. I couldn’t wait to dive into it.

The branching story, and certain characters being exclusive to certain factions, replaying this game is a must and unlike some is an utter delight. An expansive diverse roster allows players to constantly switch up their teams allowing for a more engaging experience that takes longer to become unsatisfying.
Marvel Games Ranked 2 – Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy ended up as my surprise hit of 2021 and was my game of the year of 2023. The story had me sucked in from the first cutscene. Unlike some I actually liked that you only played as Star-Lord it allowed a better experience in my opinion. Allowing you to get a feal of the weight of Peter’s role in the Guardians. He is the leader and ultimately any outcome lies on him.

The developers managed to sneak in an impressive number of hints and easter eggs. They browsed the Marvel catalogue of characters and picked some really diverse inclusions, my personal best being Fin Fang Foom. The design was amazing I found it to be one of the most memorable aspects of the whole game!

Marvel Games Ranked 1- Marvel’s Spider-Man

Now for undoubtedly the most successful of all Marvel games- Marvel’s Spider-Man. First releasing as a PS4 exclusive, this original story followed Peter Parker come into the role of Spider-Man and saw him grow immensely over the course of the game. With a spin-off released shortly after following second Spider-Man, Miles Morales, titled the rather big mouthful- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Which with its steep price tag and limited content is a fun experience but one best waiting for a sale.

Meaning if you want to web-swing around New York City there isn’t a better game to do so than Marvel’s Spider-Man!
