The fourth instalment of the iconic Assassin’s creed franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag exploded onto the scene back in 2013. Taking and expanding on the naval combat introduced in Assassin’s Creed III (2012) but set in the golden age of pirates. Focusing on Edward Kenway the game has since become a fan favourite of the franchise. Being my personal favourite of the whole series and many others. So how come we never got a sequel to this beloved game and its enthralling protagonist.

The Ubisoft higher ups have finally realized the potential of the Kenway line and the pretty untouched period of time in Assassins Creed mythos. With the only continuation game wise we have received being Kenway’s iconic white, red, and blue assassin’s outfit. Who he stole from the true Assassin you kill in the intro level. As well as his house featuring in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

With the Kenway family line bringing some of the most memorable characters of the series, of course the most popular, pirate turned faux-assassin, Edward Kenway. Then the is Connor an assassin, son to Haytham a templar. Showing the family has played its part in both of the waring factions. It would be interesting to explore the family line further. After all with Abstergo hiring people to go into the Kenway family history numerous times, there might just be another reason they were looking into them. There may just be another prominent Kenway in the waiting. Just waiting for his time to shine, perhaps in the eventual Assassin’s Creed V. If we do ever get that.

But no more wondering! Ubisoft have finally saw the light and have actively developed a continuation of Edward’s story. So we will finally at least see Edward’s part of the Kenway story continue.

Unfortunately, for all of us who had our hearts skip a beat hoping for a return to the vast blue world via a new game that isn’t what’s happening. Rather than giving us a sequel via video game Ubisoft have pivoted to a different form of media. One that is closely related to another media that Assassin’s Creed does quiet well in- COMICS! With the sequel, in fact, being a web comic similar to the hit Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe, for Web Toon.  Titled Assassin’s Creed: Forgotten Temple it already has 23 episodes available, including an extra seven episodes on the WebToon app. With episodes releasing weekly! Writing is done by ARC, adapted by Shyatan (Redice Studio), and the art is done by Tabii.

So what does the story entail? What adventure do we follow Kenway on this time? Well as mentioned before, we follow Kenway directly after the events of Black Flag. With WebToon providing this description, “Edward Kenway returns to take the leap of faith in an all-new adventure. The high-seas hunt is on for a long-lost treasure left by Those Who Came Before”.
