Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5 is the latest installment in the Devil May Cry Series. A series that initially started development as a spin-off of another successful Capcom series- Resident Evil. Inspired by Dante’s Inferno the story of Devil May Cry follows the story of two brothers Dante and Vergil. With the games often following the conflict between the two, and human and demons. As multiple denizens of the underworld try to wreak havoc on earth over the series.

Story of Devil May Cry 5

The story of Devil May Cry 5 follows regular protagonist Dante, teaming up with Nero, Trish, and Lady as well as newcomers Nico Goldstein and V. You start off the game as Nero watching Dante struggle to fight a powerful Demon King named Urizen. His plan to merge the two worlds, the Underworld, and the Human-World. Dante asks V and Nero to flee. Nero and V are separated, Nero uses the time to get stronger and recoup from the fight with Urizen. In this time we find out V is the human part of Vergil after he impaled himself with the Yamato.

Eventually the three regroup only to have one of the playable characters betray the other two. Paired with a father reveal for Nero the story weighs heavy before the player proceeds to the final encounter Demon King Urizen, who is revealed to be Vergil. Dante and Virgil fight in hell with Nero stopping the two. Allowing Dante to take a one-way trip to the underworld to stop the demon world from merging with the human world.  However Virgil joins him. After stopping the merge the two brothers decide to continue sparring whilst demons attack them for eternity. Now deciding to be brotherly rivals rather than sworn enemies. Whilst in the Huma-World Trish and Lady are hired by Dante’s Agent Morrison, Dante having left his office to Morrison.

Pros of Devil May Cry 5

The swift swords, ferocious firearms, cryptic conjuring’s, and other elements of your arsenal mean Devil May Cry 5 holds up to the series standards of upholding giving the ability to the player to wreak unheard of amounts of carnage whilst looking so aesthetically pleasing it can only be considered a true work of art. Accompanied with a headbanging soundtrack, loveable characters, demonic bosses, and an engaging family feud means DMC 5 is a true masterpiece of media. You will find yourself engaged in the rich lore inspired by Dante’s Inferno.

The three playable characters (4 if you have the Vergil DLC) all play with a refreshing variety of gameplay. V focuses on his shadow construct- Shadow, Griffon, and Nightmare, where Nero and Dante both mange to take a fresh take on the more traditional DMC style of gameplay. My personal favorite was V as it allowed to take a more relaxed approach to the game. Allowing me to get easier SSS ranks.

The Bloody Palace mode returns yet again. This time consisting of 101 levels. Don’t threat! Players aren’t expected to complete the mammoth challenge in a mere sitting. Being allowed to suspend the game and return to the main menu saving their process for another session. The mode is a great way to rack up red orbs needed to finish off them last few character upgrades. Or if you have purchased the Virgil DLC, they come in handy allowing to quickly upgrade the demonic brother.

Cons of Devil May Cry 5

I don’t actually know where to start for cons of Devil May Cry 5. The game in my opinion is a flawless example of what Capcom are capable of. Even if it is from breathing fresh life into an old, but beloved franchise. The one thing I did find myself wanting was some more DLC or a meatier story expansion or something but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The story completes itself nicely and the only reason I found myself wanting actual DLC is because I wanted MORE of this amazing game.  Yet DMC 5 is already rammed packed to the brim with characters, weapons, secret missions, and a whole other slew of content.

Summary of Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5 is a beautiful piece of art consisting of an engaging arsenal of swords, guns, cybernetic arms, a motorbike, conjuring’s, a cane, a white Fedora, and more! All allowing the player to create their own masterpiece as the bright colours and spectacular graphics create nothing short of art. With that bass thumping on-brand soundtrack that has your heart beating like a drum calling you to war against the demonic forces. Devil May Cry 5 is a must buy for any fan on the series or the Hack & Slash genre as a whole. Packed with an entertaining story, daft offbeat moments and including a Michael Jackson like dance sequence: there isn’t much the game doesn’t offer.
