Story of One Piece Pirate Warriors 4

The games main story is played through Dramatic Arcs. These are condensed retellings of iconic series’ arcs. Including Alabaster, Enies Lobby, Summit War, Entry to the New World, and Whole Cake Island. However, the game even contains its own unique to the game arc titled- Land of Wano. This is unfortunately where my one con for the game comes in. The games video files sometimes come up as corrupted on the Steam Deck and you are greeted to a blur of rainbow bars and the iconic Thousand Sunny. Apart from that the game depicts iconic scenes from the arcs and retells them in the game’s engine. This does bring some nostalgia for some long time fans of the series.

Gameplay of One Piece Pirate Warriors 4

The gameplay, like all Warriors’ games, is mainly hack & slash with some character abilities and some characters upgrades available. However the main focus is on the hacking and slashing your way through thousands of enemies and a hand full of bosses every mission. It is the ultimate one piece power fantasy. My personal favourites to play with are Zoro, Kid, and Ace.

The game consists of three modes: Dramatic Arcs, Free Arc, and Treasure Arcs. Dramatic Arcs will see you relive iconic arcs from the series as mentioned before. Free Arcs are pretty self-explanatory. It’s where you can customize your Dramatic Arcs by changing characters, difficulty etc. Finally are Treasure Arcs, these are split into three sections: East Blue, Grand Line, and New World.

Who’s in One Piece Pirate Warriors 4?

The roster consists of 43 playable characters with a further 12 dlc characters currently released. With the Second Season pass still to deliver two of its three dlc character packs which will each bring an additional 3 characters to the game. The roster is quite diverse. Consisting of characters from the iconic Straw Hats, Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Mari, etc. Marines, such as Akainu, Smoker and Tashigi. As well as fan-favourite Pirates such as Buggy, Blackbeard, and Whitebeard.

With each character having their own set of skills and abilities they all play different. Allowing players to change their play style as they wish. Characters are split up into three types: Power (e.g. Zoro), Sky (e.g. Sanji) , and Technique (e.g. Bartolomeo). You upgrade your characters by purchasing upgrades for the universal growth or soul maps. Or upgrade specific characters by getting upgrades in their own skill maps. With each character sharing the growth and soul maps, as well as having an additional two personal skill maps. Allowing for an outstanding amount of customization.

Summary of One Piece Pirate Warriors 4

If you’re a fan of either One Piece, the Warriors franchise, hack & slash games, or just power fantasies then Pirate Warriors 4 is the game for you! The gameplay is swift and easy to learn, and the gameplay loop although simple is simply more addictive than breathing. One piece Pirate Warriors 4 is the ultimate One Piece simulator. With it being able to better replicate the Shonen Jump style of fighting better than any other One piece game.
