DVD Review: 1997: Dawn Of The Attitude – WWE

When analysing the history of WWE, previously the WWF (and the WWWF before that), a pivotal year is 1997. A revolution was happening on-screen, and years of promoting wrestling to please the kids and bringing the families was being slowly replaced by a rebellious product which focused on entertainment via strong language, sexuality, bloody violence and more mature themes to the storylines.

For the first time ever, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, Ron Simmons, The Godfather and Kane sit together with host Renee Young and share their behind-the-scenes experiences during 1997 – one of the most unforgettable and influential years in WWE history.

DVD Review: For All Mankind – The Life & Career Of...

It's hard to believe prior to the release of For All Mankind that Mick Foley had never enjoyed a complete career retrospective DVD documentary. We'd had one-hour docs which showcased aspects of Foley's life and times, but never one which took us from the very beginning and through all the peaks and valleys of Foley's career.

DVD Review: WWE Tagged Classics: Austin 3:16 Uncensored, Three Faces Of...

Overall, this four-part Tagged Classic is a great trek through the Attitude Era, and at times a fascinating glimpse into how much the WWF/WWE, and their home video/DVD releases, have changed since 1998-2000. If you loved the Attitude Era, you'll really enjoy this two-disc set.

DVD Review: The History Of The Hardcore Championship 24/7 – WWE

Between the plethora of bouts, the range of diverse characters and the undeniable entertainment provided by the 24/7 rule shenanigans, it's safe to say that Attitude Era fans will really enjoy this DVD, and will be transported back to a time when certain matches could start anytime, literally anywhere.

Most exciting of all is seeing some of the great stars who made the Hardcore division so memorable, with the likes of Crash Holly, Al Snow, Steve Blackman, and Raven fighting to take things to the next bone-crunching level and be crowned the king of hardcore!

DVD Review: Triple H – The King Of Kings – WWE

Fans of Triple H will enjoy The King Of Kings, but it is an incomplete profile of HHH's career.

DVD Preview: The Attitude Era Volume 3 – Unreleased – WWE

DVD Review: Mick Foley’s Greatest Hits & Misses – Hardcore Edition...

It's not for everyone (to quote the original ECW), but any fans of hardcore wrestling will truly love this; the three-disc version really is the definitive Mick Foley collection.

DVD Review: WWE From The Vault: Shawn Michaels

This is a superb twin-disc DVD, and this set the tone for many great collections of this nature in the future.

DVD Review: WWE Tagged Classics: WWF The Year In Review 1995...

Like with the 1993-4 YIR twin-set, longtime fans and those wanting to learn more about WWF/WWE history should get a kick out of this two-disc DVD, but unlike the 1993-4 pack, the general quality is of a lower standard, making for a less satisfying viewing experience.

DVD Review: The Twisted, Disturbed Life Of Kane – WWE

Kanenites should be more than satisfied with this release on one of the most underrated yet important characters of the last 20 years in WWE.

DVD Review: The Undertaker’s Deadliest Matches – WWE

This is one DVD where the repetition of matches was necessary, because it feels very incomplete. I can certainly see why WWE did not overlap content between this and Tombstone, but this is one of the few DVDs where I feel it should have been the case; we could have at least had the KOTR 1998 Cell showdown with Mankind.

DVD Review: The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man In Sports-Entertainment –...

It is undoubtedly incomplete, but we may get the true ultimate Rock collection someday. And even if we don't, it's nice to know that unlike when this DVD was originally released, it is likely that one day we will at least get to see The Rock lay the smack down one more time.

DVD Review: Hell In A Cell – WWE

It does get a bit repetitive, and it is rather violent, but when it comes to a wrestling DVD which delivers hard-hitting combat on a big stage to settle huge rivalries and deliver great matches and unforgettable moments, there aren't many you will find which are as good as Hell In A Cell.

DVD Review: Tombstone – The History Of The Undertaker – WWE

A modern-day look at Taker's career, including a proper documentary and a round-up of matches covering his entire career, from the pre-WWE days to the major bouts of the 1990s and his biker phase to the highlights of the Streak, would unquestionably be superior, but in the meantime fans should be satisfied.

DVD Review: The Best Of King Of The Ring – WWE

The Best Of King Of The Ring feels a bit unnecessary, the match selection is difficult to explain, and the chronology is a bit weird. But there are still some very good matches here, so whilst I wouldn't class this as being anywhere near a must-own set, you should get a fair amount of enjoyment out of it.

DVD Review: The Best Of In Your House – WWE

Combined with the small touches to make the release stand out, The Best Of In Your House is rather like the event itself was: it may not be the most vital purchase, and by missing it you won't necessarily regret it, but if you do decide to buy it, you'll be rewarded with plenty of action and entertainment.
