This is our review of Sister Act at Liverpool‘s Empire Theatre!
Description Of Sister Act
Brace yourselves sisters because the habit comes to Liverpool in 2023! Don’t miss this eagerly anticipated Olivier Award-nominated production of the Broadway and UK smash-hit musical Sister Act. We answer all your prayers with a stunning cast. This includes TV and West End legend Lesley Joseph, Olivier Award-winner and star of Tracy Beaker Clive Rowe, West End sensation and Hairspray favourite Lizzie Bea, and Emmerdale and Waitress star Sandra Marvin as Deloris, everyone’s favourite nun on the run!
Disco diva Deloris’ life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Placed under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she shouldn’t be found – a convent! Encouraged to help the struggling choir, she helps her fellow sisters find their true voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. Featuring original music by Tony and 8-time Oscar award-winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted) and songs inspired by Motown, soul, and disco, this heavenly musical is joyous and uplifting in equal measures. A musical sent from above, Sister Act is the brilliant, must-see show which raises the spirits and warms the soul time after time.
Analysis Of Sister Act
The cast features Lesley Joseph as Mother Superior; Gabrielle Davina Smith as Doloris Von Cartier (understudy); Clive Rowe as Eddie Souter; and Lizzie Bea as Sister Mary Roberts. There is also a multi-talented large cast with amazing voices. Though I must note that Doloris has a very powerful good singing voice. Furthermore, the sets are multifunctional and change with ease to a convent, a club lounge, Police Station, and a delipidated church. The lighting is also magnificent. Again, the cast is very powerful and all gave energetic performances.
Meanwhile, it was lovely to hear a live orchestra musically directed by Neil MacDonald. Also, the Monsignor O’Hara (played by Graham MacDuff) was excellent as he transformed from a regular Monsignor to a disco diva.
Summary Of Sister Act
In closing, this is a wonderful show and one that I urge you to go and see for yourself!
