This is our review of The Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto 2024 Rapunzel at Liverpool‘s Everyman Theatre!

Synopsis Of The Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto 2024 Rapunzel

It’s the annual Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto! And this year, the team brings the story of Rapunzel to life, but with a few interesting twists. For starters, Rapunzel (Ai Kumar) is stuck at the top of a certain local tower. Then, we learn that she lives under the control of Danny Ruff (Zoe West), the owner of Man For It. This is displeasing to Laurie (Rebecca Levy), who befriends Rapunzel and wants to rescue her via a new hair-extending innovation.

Along the way, we also meet Deppie Updo (Michael Starke) and Fairy Fixer-Upper (Adam Keast). They run the rival salon which is in trouble, partly due to the previous actions of Danny. We soon learn that Rapunzel is actually the daughter of Debbie, and so a rescue attempt begins to form. But can they truly save Rapunzel from her plight? And will Trevor (Tomi Ogbaro) find love with Laurie, as he falls for her while assuming everybody is called Trevor?

Analysis Of The Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto 2024 Rapunzel

As is always the show with the Everyman’s festive tradition, this show is bags of fun. There are local jokes and salon puns aplenty. These range from Prince “Timotei” (the hilarious Ben Boskovic) to the clever twists on popular rock songs. Speaking of which, the music is as varied and exciting as ever. Not least because the performers themselves double up as the musicians.

The plot is simple to follow, and the story doesn’t take seriously, making for a very enjoyable experience. Furthermore, the intimate Everyman setting brings everybody closer to the show. If you’re near the front, you may even become part of the show! And of course, there is plenty of positivity to raise everybody’s spirits as we head into the festive season.
