This is our review of The Salon – The Sequel! at St Helens Theatre Royal!

Synopsis Of The Salon – The Sequel!

Get your rollers ready! Because one of St Helens’s most successful plays returns with a hilarious new sequel. The true queen of the airwaves, Leanne Campbell, returns as salon owner Carol with this riotous show. Written by Drew Quayle, the show runs from Thursday 3 October to Sunday 13 October.

So, Carol feels like she’s on top of the world. Indeed, she has their beauty therapist Tia talking up the shop on her popular podcast. And Carol’s confrontational sidekick Sheila is sorting out her temper tantrums by attending anger management classes. So, all seems rosy – well, except for an unwanted pregnancy for her daughter Emily, and with one of her exes!

Carol isn’t happy; the baby’s father is a huge flirt with lots of women and children to his name. So, Carol plans to trap him in a compromising position. This is to prove to Emily that she’s too good for him and that he’s not worthy of Emily’s love. But Carol must also deal with the return of a local gangster. So, how can Carol resolve these mega problems and keep the place looking spotless?

Analysis Of The Salon – The Sequel!

As ever, the cast is over the top and each character has their own, amusing story to tell. There is a lot of laughter and plenty of rude innuendos. Indeed, the audience loved the play and the double entendres throughout the show. In fact, I have never seen the Theatre Royal so packed!

TElsehwere, the costumes were colourful and appropriate to the play. The best performance was from Sara White as Sheila, with excellent comic timing. The scenery is suitably eye-catching and consistent throughout the play. Whilst the play is very funny, I personally found it too rude for my tastes. However, I was obviously in the minority as the audience loved it.

Summary Of The Salon – The Sequel!

This is definitely a show for a younger audience; it appeals greatly to the next generation of theatre-goers. Consider the 18+ rating as the sexual content is quite strong at times. But it’s a show full of laughs and unforgettable moments. You’ll never view a beauty salon the same way again!
