Fallout: The Best Video Game Adaption Yet!

Fallout released recently on Amazon Prime and seemingly took over the world within the first day of release. Everyone at my work was talking about it, people coming in to eat at the restaurant, people waiting for a bus. It seemed to be everyone’s choice entertainment. It wasn’t just the fans that such a positive reaction, as critics also praised the series. Having it even out beat fellow game adaption, Halo, on various sites e.g. . So, without further ado let’s try to explain just why Fallout is the best video game adaption yet!

The Story

The story of Fallout is enthralling from the start. Filled with twists and turns it feels entirely original to the show, but is it? Yes and no. The story is created fresh for the TV show but the story itself takes some of the best story beats from the games. The main vault dweller protagonist searches the wasteland for her father, just like Fallout 3. The Enclave has been reportedly destroyed, with one sole survivor and a dog seen fleeing the scene. Managing to deliver something both fresh and nostalgic the series is a perfect blend between fan service and original content. I for one I’m excited how they can take other story points from the games and incorporate them into the show’s lore.

The Little Things

Another area where the production team excelled above all expectations is in the little details. For example, the computers look like they have been ejected straight from the game. The colors, text, sound, and glow all replicate the look of them in the games perfectly. It’s rare to have iconic game mechanics actually realized on the screen. As most creatives tend to use the opportunity to make their own twist on the already established lore.

The headshot effect also looks like it came straight from the games. For a second on my first watch, I thought they overlayed Fallout 4 footage somehow. It was that similar. The explosion of fragments of skull explode all over the place in a thick fog of blood. It sounds disgusting and in the show it kind of looks it. But in the games this is one of the most rewarding gameplay features. It makes that longshot with a sniper all that more rewarding. I’m excited to see a couple of big impactful deaths end in a headshot just to hammer home the impact of the scene. To ensure no matter what, us an audience won’t be forgetting it anytime soon.

Another highlight of this dystopian drama is the enthralling characters. Be it the Ghoul, the Vault Dweller, the Mr. Handys, or any other character. Each breams with personality and its honestly refreshing to see so many different, complex, personalities. Especially in a video game adaption.
