The story follows the premise of What If… Peter Quill Attacked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? With the big changing point in this universe is that when Eos, the living planet, tasked Yondu to retrieve his son from earth. He did just that retrieve him. Instead of growing fond of the boy and keeping him, like in the mainline MCU.

With the story being set when Peter is still a young child, the Avengers have not yet assembled. At least not the depiction we are used to. Captain America is still frozen in ice, unknown to be alive. Iron Man is just a child, and Hank Pym is still in his prime. The new/old team consists of Hank Pym/Ant-Man, Peggy Carter, Bill Foster/Goliath, Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, King T’Chaka/Black Panther, and finally Wendy Lawson/Mar-Vell. With the addition of a vengeance crazed Thor who seeks vengeance against the young Star-Lord.

It’s fun to watch the bitter rivalry between Foster and Pym with the two having such similar powers and abilities. However, unlike Lang and Cross, these two still find a way to work together. Watching Hope connect with an imprisoned Peter makes your heart warm. Then nearly explode into “happy teers” as you notice she gave him her Walkman as he left.

What If… Peter Quill Attacked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes? Isn’t the most emotional installment, nor the one with the best action, or the best characters. However, it is emotional, heartwarming, action packed, and got some new perspective on characters we haven’t seen much of yet. Such as Goliath and King T’Chaka in their prime. Plus, Kurt Russel kills it as Ego. His performance is perfect and is a highlight of the episode. I hope we see more of him in the future. Overall, What If… Peter Quill Attacked Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, is a great installment into the What If series, just not one of the best.

Overall Rating: 7.5 – Good!
