Introduction – Best Killing Eve Episodes

Welcome to our list of the best Killing Eve episodes! And to think, the one thing that actually killed Eve was the BBC cancelling the show. Despite Killing Eve bursting onto the scene like Micah Richards with two amazing series, it did eventually slow down. But there were still plenty of highlights throughout the show like Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer’s performances. They made for a tremendous show, which was created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. So, what better way to celebrate than to write a killer TV article about its greatest episodes?

History – Best Killing Eve Episodes

Killing Eve first debuted on BBC One in 2018 and ran for four seasons and 32 episodes until it was cancelled in 2022. It was based on the Villanelle book series by Luke Jennings and follows an MI6 agent, Eve Polastri (Oh), as she joins a case of a female assassin, Villanelle (Comer), which spirals the more Eve investigates. Despite only winning one Primetime Emmy during a five-year run, the show received huge praise for both Oh’s and Comer’s performances as well as the writing. That might have had something to do with Waller-Bridge and Emerald Fennell as showrunners in the first two series. So with the history out of the way, here are the best episodes of Killing Eve ranked.

Best Killing Eve Episodes – Top Ten

10. Making Dead Things Look Nice (S4, E7)

Making Dead Things Look Nice

Well, that’s a weirdly ominous title. But what makes the second-to-last episode of the show so good? Well, just the scene of Villanelle being chased around an island by a woman, Gunn, with a machete. Talk about a smoking gun. Anyway, Eve is also having to deal with a difficult situation that is much less life-threatening as she does karaoke with Yusuf where he definitely doesn’t leave her. Overall, this episode builds up to the season’s climax and is known for its intense and dramatic moments.

9. A Rainbow In Beige Boots (S4, E3)

There’s just something hilariously sibling-like at times between Eve and Villanelle in Series 4. Just look at the opening scene. Here, Eve sees Villanelle in her hotel room and just lets her stay there providing she doesn’t go out committing crimes. Unfortunately, Eve’s trust backfires when Villanelle goes to Eve’s therapist friend and forces him to give her therapy. Man, why don’t more people try that radical approach… Anyway, this is an episode with compelling character development and a complex, darkly humorous plot.

8. Are You Leading Or Am I? (S3, E8)

Ah yes, the episode where Villanelle attempts to get a job at MI6. Albeit the only caveat is she has no useful info for Carolyn to use. Oh and her many crimes will have been a nightmare to deal with. Anyway, Konstantin is still operating in the background as Carolyn has questions for him regarding Kenny’s death and the possible involvement of the Twelve. That doesn’t even factor in the ending which given Series 4 is kind of pointless but still a lovely moment between Eve and Villanelle. Overall, the third season’s ending is filled with suspense, action, and surprise developments.

7. Don’t Get Attached (S4, E5)

We continue our rankings of the best Killing Eve episodes. And man, this edition is fantastic mostly because it’s very difficult not to get attached to the characters. Here, we see how Carolyn and Konstantin were a couple in 1979 until she finds out he blackmailed her father and is a KGB agent. Two bad surprises for the price of one. On top of all this, Eve somehow thinks kidnapping an assassin’s kid isn’t going to backfire until she ends up in Kent where she sees Villanelle getting ‘shot’. Honestly, that final shot of Eve holding Villanelle in her arms is more powerful than you’d expect it to be. In summary, a pivotal episode that explores the characters’ relationships and loyalties.

6. Just Dunk Me (S4, E1)

Well, this wasn’t as much of a slam dunk as the writers thought it would be. Bad pun aside, this is a decent enough episode with some very funny moments. Most of these revolve around Villanelle finding religion after moving in with a priest and his daughter. Jokes aside, this is rather nice and does lead to Villanelle having a dream about Jesus. The only thing is: it’s her in drag. Fantastic stuff. Anyway, Eve is still on the hunt for the Twelve but doesn’t have any decent leads. Overall, the start of the fourth season brings new challenges and intrigue into the storyline.

5. Slowly Slowly Catchy Monkey (S3, E1)

Much like in other spy media, Eve can’t escape Villanelle. Here, we see Villanelle settled in Spain until a former assassin, Dasha, arrives at her door. To get Villanelle to return to the Twelve, she demands a higher status than Dasha and Konstantin. This is agreed to if she carries out a political murder. All the while Eve is now working in a Korean restaurant and agrees to meet Kenny, only for him to fall off a rooftop. How shocking! Anyway, this is the start of a new chapter in the series focusing on Eve’s recovery and Villanelle’s life post-shooting.

4. Wide Awake (S2, E7)

Alas, this isn’t a Katy Perry x Killing Eve crossover, but it is a fantastic episode. This is mostly because Eve slowly becomes jealous of Villanelle’s bond with Aaron. This all leads to a great scene when all three are in Rome. I mean they do say when in Rome. There’s also a well-filmed scene where Villanelle quizzes Niko, Eve’s partner. Overall, a much slower episode than some later ones, but it also prepares us for the series finale.

3. You’re Mine (S2, E8)

Well, the shit hits the fan in this episode. Mostly because of the great twist that flips Eve and Villanelle’s dynamic when Eve comes in to try and rescue Villanelle. Now, to say there’s a smoking gun involved in this scene is clear, and there’s a great argument scene between the pair which further develops their bond. Also, that ending is phenomenal as it almost has the audience believing Villanelle will reform before that shot. Truly a great episode and series finale that sets the stage for the future.

2. Nice Face (S1, E1)

Best Killing Eve Episodes

Okay, it was a real toss-up between the top two episodes as both make strong claims as the best Killing Eve episode. So apart from the obvious world set-up, what makes Nice Face such a good episode? Well, it lays the foundation for the cat-and-mouse game between Eve Polastri and Villanelle. Also, the chemistry is quickly clear between the pair even in very brief encounters. And that doesn’t even consider how funny some of the writing is as Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s sarcastic and witty comments shine. A great episode that shows the potential of the series.

1. I Have A Thing About Bathrooms (S1, E5)

Best Killing Eve Episodes

And the best episode of Killing Eve is … I Have A Thing About Bathrooms. Mostly because of a certain scene that got Jodie Comer the role of Villanelle thanks to her chemistry with Sandra Oh. Anyway, there’s a lot to love about this episode as it’s the first time we properly see Eve and Villanelle facing each other. Oh, and the bathroom murder scene is pretty damn funny and brutal. Who could also forget that it showcases a pivotal moment in the bond between Eve and Villanelle? Honestly, there’s so much to love, and so it squeaks its way to the crown of the best Killing Eve episode.
