Synopsis Of Stranger Things

In 1980s Indiana, a group of young intelligent school kids investigate the disappearance of their friend, Will. A strange creature lurks in the shadows plaguing the small town with power cuts and strange scientific forces.

We soon find out the origin of the creature in an isolated government facility where we meet eleven, a young girl with strange telekinetic abilities. After escaping the facility she joins our protagonists in their quest to find Will. Together they form amazing friendships and discover the dark reality of Will’s disappearance.

They discover Will cold and stuck in the upside-down; a strange opposite of our world happening within the same timeline only darker with fearsome alien creatures out to kill.

Using their intelligence and the supernatural powers of Eleven, they retrieve Will and must fight against the deadly alien creatures.

Throughout the seasons we learn the wall of the dimension they once thought was closed is reopening its cracks.

Setting And Colour

Set in the 80s, the sets and costumes use a range of bright colours synonymous with the era. So, the colours of the sky are usually bright blue. Furthermore, the greenery of the forest trees has an authentic green. This creates a hue effect on landscapes to represent the 80’s film camera.

A particularly important use of colour is the contrast between our world and the Upside down. Being the negative of our world, the colour used is black and white to show the darkness and coldness that lies beneath.

Analysis Of Stranger Things

Overall, Stranger Things is a great watch for teens and adults as it incorporates the traditional teen friendship group similar to the goonies but with a sinister threat lurking in the shadows.

The cast is extremely talented despite some of them only being teenagers during filming and create a wholesome friendship between each other that we learn to love as part of the show. Together they have to fight against evil and work together to help save each other.

The storyline is constantly tense providing unexpected turns and twists that can be both tragic and thrilling. There are also lots of comical aspects within the series to provide comic relief amongst the horrible deaths. So, comedy often comes via the teens. Furthermore, the detective Hopper is a great role model for the kids and provides care for Eleven.
